Life of Dante




Dante Alighieri was a famous writer and poet that lived from 1265-1321, in Florence,Italy. Dante died at the age of 56 years old. Dante's most famous writings was The Devine Comedy. This writing is about a poets journey through the world of the dead. Dante's mother died when he was not even 10 years old. His father was soon married again after his mother's death. Dante was promised to marry Gemma di Manetto Donati, at the age of 12. Dante never liked Gemma, he really liked a girl named Beatrice, who he met at the age of 9. Dante never mentioned Gemma in his writings, he always mentioned Beatrice. Dante never married Gemma until after the death of Beatrice. (mid 1290's) Dante's body was hid from Pope John XXII. In 1677 his remains were moved. In 1865, construction workers found Dante's remains on accident.

Dante wrote many stories and poems in his life. His first book is called La Vita Nuova. He wrote this autobiography account of his love for Beatrice. From his first sight of her to his vision of paradise after death. His most famous Book is The Devine Comedy. This is about a journey of a poet through the world of the dead.
